Multiplayer Crash

Hey! DS crashes when I connect over the internet to my friend's static IP(host), and I've been playing anywhere from 3 minutes to an hour. Suddenly my character stops moving and soon after an error message pops up that I'm out of virtual memory. Then I get either an error about run time errors or C++ error window!
I'm running a PIII 550 w/ 256mb RAM and win2k w/ all updates
video card is 3D prophetII mmx w/ 32mb RAM
I have set the virtual memory to use 400mb swap
I have defragged my HD
I have updated all my video drivers
I have updated my directX
I have installed the new DS update v1.1
I have a linksys router as firewall
I have DSL w/ PPPOE

Still crashes!!

any one help cure this insanity! ;)
