I hope you have not yet found your rescue dog. My daughter has one that desperately needs a good home. She got him from a "friend" who, while he wasn't really abused, he wasn't being taken care of either, was thin as a rail. He's lab and pit bull mix, and very sweet. He is a sleek black with white on his chest and chin, and tips of toes. He's been around small children all his life, and is great with them. He's not neutured, but you wouldn't know it. She's had him with her other male dog for about 8 months, they get along great, but he's recently decided to go over her fence and gets in the street. He's not used to cars, and we're afraid he'll be killed-or picked up by the pound, who would kill him because he's pit mix. She has another lab mix who is not interested in getting out at all. There is one 4 ft. height place and that's where he's going over. There is no option about redoing the fence, it's a leased house and she lives in a very restricted neighborhood, you aren't allowed to "patch" a fence or add height to an existing one. She can't afford to replace the whole fence, so he's chained when he's outside. This is NOT a solution, I hate to chain a dog, but it is the only way to keep him in when he's outside. He does great inside, completely housebroken and while he does get excited, (he's young, about 1 1/2 years) he's not aggressive or destructive in any way. I love dogs too, and would gladly take him myself, but I already have 7 and one especially who was an badly abused rescue would not tolerate him. Mine is very bonded to me and while he is OK with my other dogs, they were raised together. Foster care, with taking him on weekends to Petco or other places, simply isn't an option, she has several small children and is very pregnant with another, besides this has a very small chance of helping him, since he is pit mix. Please consider taking him, he's a great dog. My daughter lives in Houston, which you mentioned as not too far to drive. Please email me and I can give you phone numbers, both mine and hers for more information. I hope you consider taking this very sweet dog. Thank You, Pinkdragonlady
