I picked up a Pit (maybe a high percent Pit cross) on Hwy183 in Austin today. At some point he was hit by a car and has healed up pretty well but he won't put weight on his left rear leg. My vet thinks there's an infection in the hock and gave me antibiotic and anti-inflammatory as a preliminary treatment; she thinks he's healed well enough on his own that once the infection is treated he'll begin using hte leg again.

I can't keep this dog and don't want to take him to the city shelter as he'll most likely be put down immediately due to his old injuries and current lameness. If anyone reading this list can foster the dog I'll be glad to deliver him up to two hours from Austin.

More specifics:

Fawn male pit, unneutered (I'll even spring for that if I can get him in to ATA to have it done cheaply), 45#, damaged back leg (medication going now). Loves me (adult woman), was OK with the men at my vet's office. Greeted my 7 year-old son appropriately. Isn't trying to chase down/eat the yardbirds, isn't trying to get off the tie-out and go over the fence. No apparent food agression, will sit for a cookie but doesn't seem to have any obedience training (doesn't know heel or stay, notably). I'll send him with his new collar and leash, the tie-out line, a bag of food and a bag of cookies plus his medication and fresh rabies certificate.

My email address is slinky AT fysh DOT org or woolygrrl AT austin DOT rr DOT com, or my cell is five-one-two--nine-one-four--two-zero-five-four

Many thanks for any help!
