Roscoe and Daisy were wandering in the neighborhood about two weeks prior to coming to us. A neighbor had been caring for them, but did not confine them. She lived about 3 miles south of us. Animal control confiscated the dogs but our neighbor was responsible for getting them out. From where ever they were after leaving Animal Control, they decided to explore our neighborhood further and ran up our driveway... We opened our back gate and they dashed in! They've been with us since 11/9/05. We can't keep them, having two large dogs and one medium dog (thrice blessed!), but want to find a good home for them soon! My parents have three large dogs of their own and had planned on bringing them when they came for Thanksgiving, so my husband and I feel like we have a deadline for placing these dogs with someone else!

We've been told that both young dogs are Pit Bull - Boxer looking. They're probably 10 to 12 months old. We've been calling the male Roscoe. He's Dark Brindle w/ White around his neck and on his chest. We call the female Daisy. She's Dark Brown w/ a White chest. Both are very loving and fun to interact with. Check out their photos and bios at http://pbrc.net/dogpages/south/dogsouthwest.html (uploaded 11/17/05).

Roscoe is a SUPER SWEET young dog! He follows our Husky mix around the yard, trying to play with him, imitating him in everything, maintaining a happy attitude even after being knocked to the ground on his back He loves to roughhouse with his sister, Daisy, grabbing her scruff and dragging her along. When he tried to do the same thing with our Lab/Terrier mix she corrected him and he hasn’t tried to do it since. Roscoe learned to sit with a hand command within two days of being with us, and with a voice command a few days later. When we scolded him for jumping on the storm door, he stopped doing it. He sits on the mat looking inside with the most adorable puppy eyes I’ve ever seen! I’ve never heard Roscoe whining but he’ll occasionally let out a deep, reverberating bark at a squirrel or when a neighborhood dog is serenading us. When the garbage men come up the driveway to empty our canisters, Roscoe is there with ears back and tail wagging, hoping for a good petting, which he’s received every time. While being walked in the morning, the young dogs beg for attention from the children who are waiting for the bus; their whole bodies display elation when they receive finally that petting. They haven’t met younger ones yet, but would undoubtedly lick their faces clean. They are both happiest when my husband and I are interacting with him. Roscoe romps, chases toys, or runs alongside while we chase our dogs through the yard. He snuggles contentedly when we sit on the door stoop with him. The trepidation and anxiety we used to see in Roscoe’s eyes has nearly disappeared now. He and his sister must have been treated badly as they grew up; luckily they’ve been shown kindness and compassion enough to retain the wonderful personalities my husband and I have experienced. Roscoe wants to be taken to a home that will provide indoor comforts, positive training, strong leadership, and that perhaps has another dog of similar body type who will play with him. He’ll need somebody to continue working on-leash with him since his gait isn’t consistent, but he’ll watch his handler vigilantly with a strong desire for praise. Roscoe has been working on his fear of trucks and SUVs and is confident he’ll soon be ready for rides with his new owner to the dog park! His new owner will only receive him after he’s been neutered, vaccinated, tested for heartworms, and put on prevention.

Daisy is a PRECIOUS IMP of a young dog! She wants to play so badly with our Husky mix that she’ll jump over his back if he’s preoccupied with her brother Roscoe. Daisy is so loving and attention-seeking that she’ll abandon dog play for quiet time with my husband or me. She’s vocal when her stomach starts to growl or when she’s been without human companionship for too long (usually over three hours). If Daisy is scolded, she’s extremely contrite and convincing that she’ll behave “next time.” Her pushy behavior has been reinforced by Roscoe’s easy-going nature, so she’ll need firm and gentle leadership in her new life. Food is a great motivator for Daisy; she overcame her fear of vehicles within a day so she could have her meals in the back of our 4Runner! She learned to sit with hand and voice commands when treats in my hand got her attention and now does it for the petting. She’s also strongly motivated by attention; walking has become a great joy for her because she looks forward to attention she’ll receive from the children at the bus stop (she hasn’t encountered any very young ones yet). Daisy loves running and romping with her brother and our dogs but especially wants to be held tight and cuddled. She’d benefit from “Princess” treatment as long as she doesn’t become spoiled by it. The apprehension and misgivings that used to be strong in Daisy’s eyes has given way to a delighted gleam when she’s with us. She’ll need somebody with compassion to help her overcome fears that we haven’t yet discovered. She and her brother must have been treated badly as they grew up; luckily they’ve been shown kindness and compassion enough to retain the wonderful personalities my husband and I have experienced. Daisy wants to be taken to a home that will provide indoor comforts, positive training, strong leadership, and that perhaps has another dog of similar body type who will play with her. She’ll need somebody to continue working on-leash with her since she’s unsure of the experience, but she’ll watch her handler vigilantly for signs of approval. Daisy is confident she’s almost ready for rides with her new owner to the dog park! Her new owner will only receive her after she’s been neutered, vaccinated, tested for heartworms, and put on prevention.
