Found: Female pit around 2 years old.
She was severely malnourished when she walked up in our front yard with her leash still attached to her collar. Our peacock was about to become her dinner!
She has scars on her face that appear to be fight related, but her disposition is not that of a fighter. I believe she was stolen from a good home and treated badly. No luck finding her original owner.
She is reddish brown w/black nose and needs to gain about another 20 pounds to be back to normal. Otherwise, she appears to be very healthy!
She's obviously an indoor/outdoor type.
Her Likes:
Loves to lie on the couch and watch tv with you!
Loves to go for leashed walks, but needs a little training as she tends to drag you!
Loves to play fetch with her bone!
Loves to go for rides in the truck/car -- very good backseat manners!
Likes to sit on command and give you her paw -- seems as if she was trained to not jump on people, although you can tell she wants to!
Likes to be bathed! She just stands there while you hose her down and soap her up! Very mild-mannered!
Her Dislikes:
Cats, birds and squirrels.
Things we just aren't certain about:
Other dogs don't seem to bother her, but we haven't really had a chance to test that theory besides walking her next to other dogs behind fences, in which she just wagged her tail and sniffed at them! We have a small, aggressive dog that she was getting along fine with until our little one attacked her over a bone. The pit bull just pinned her down and growled at her. It was a narrow escape and I believe that the pit spared her life!
Children -- we don't have any, so we just don't know how she is around little people. She does not seem prejudiced against men or women. She likes people in general.
It may take a couple of days for her to warm up to you, but once she does, she will love you for life! We have a low fence around our backyard, and she has made no attempts to jump over it. She seems content being close to "home".
She doesn't seem to have any scars to suggest having been spayed, but she definitely has never had pups, so she needs to be spayed and her shots. We haven't taken her to a vet yet, so we do not know if she is heartworm positive or not. Let's cross our fingers that she isn't!
If you, or someone you know, is interested in this dog or knows of a no-kill shelter that will take her local to me (Dallas/Fort Worth), PLEASE contact us via phone or email! We cannot keep her for much longer because we have cats, birds and the little dog who thinks she can take on a pit bull -- LOL
Needless to say it is a full-time job that needs to be taken over by someone with experience and room to grow! I have already fallen in love with her, but I know there is someone out there that can give her exactly what she needs!
