Dear Ah Por,

Sorry that I did not reply the e-mail. I did not have time to access this website in the morning of 2 Feb and forgot the address when I was in Melbourne! Anyway I only stopped over in Sydney for one hour. My schedule was also very tight in Melbourne.

The reason that I came to Australia was to attend the Japan-Australia and Japan-China bilaternal migratory bird agreements. I think I don't need to say which country I represented - I was the only one using all three languages at the meetings and at time helped the interpreters the right terms to translate.

This is my third visit to Melbourne. It is quite a pleasant city (although I like Sydney more).

Have a chance to visit some 'wild' sides (pretty mild to me) near Melbourne, including the famous Philip Islands where you can watch the 'Penguin parade' in the evening. In fact most tourists could not see many penguins - they left too early. Most people left after a few penguins appeared on shore - probably because they have to return to their buses (poor tourists. I will never let others to arrange my trip). I stayead much longer, and because I had my binoculars with me - I saw much more. In fact the penguins (Fairy Penguin. Smallest of the penguins) were not so exacting to me. There were thousands of Short-tailed Shearwaters (a big brown seabird) above the waves. That's a very good bird for birdwatchers! (Without binoculars you could hardly see them)

Have also been to Swan Bay, Seredip Sanctuary etc. All are pretty artificial. Need to travel further to see some real wild sites. But I think only those 'crocodile dundee' type Aussies and me are interested to go that far.

Will come and meet you in Sydney next time, or if you are coming to Japan.

Simba
