Subject: A Japanese movie

Well, Ah Por is out of business again for some time.....let me post a few words here.

I stayed in UK (Edinburgh and Cambridge) for the whole April and the first week of May on business (writing a book at Cambridge!) Needless too say I longed to come back to Tokyo. Yesterday I went to the cinema and saw two. Both are quite good.

The first one that I would like to recommend is a Japanese movie 'Chirusoku no Natsu' (It means the Weaver Girl's Festival in Summer). The Weaver Girl's festival (Chak Jik in Cantonese and Qixi in Mandarin) is supposed to be a traditional lover's day in Japan, as the two lovers could only meet once a year, on the 7th day of the 7th month (becomes 7 July when Japan adopted the western calendar.

The story took place in Shimoseki in western Japan. Shimoseki (Ha Guan or Xia Guan) is the Ma Guan of 'Ma Guan treaty' signed after the first Sino-Japanese War in 1895.

Wait, this is not a story about Japanese and Chinese. It's a love story of a Japanese high school girl and Korean High school boy. The story took place in 1977-78. Exactly the same school year as ours - that means the characters are of the same age of us.

It's a very good story about teenage love affair. Go and check your video story - make sure it has English subtitle, unless you understand Japanese.

The second movie I saw was 'Lost in translation'. I think many of you have seen it.

Time to go.
