A short History of Palmistry.

Palmistry originated in the ancient Orient. In northwest India the reading of the hand has been practiced by the Joshi caste from time immemorial until the present time.Palmistry is considered an essential and integral part of life on the subcontinent where few important decisions are made without first seeing a Palmistry Consultant.
From India the belief in the efficacy of Palmistry travelled to Europe through Persia and the near east.Alexander the Great was a believer and the study of the hand was sanctioned by such notables as Aristotle, Pliny, Albertus Magnus, the Emperor Augustus and many more. Now as in the study of mankind there came to be recognised a natural position on the face for the nose ,mouth, eyes etc., so also on the hand there came to be recognised a natural position for the line of head,the line of life,the line of heart and all the other lines of the hand. Time and study gave names to these marks; as the line of head meaning mentality,the line of life longevity,the line of heart affections and so on. At the same time the significance of the mounts, the shape and colour of the hands and the nails came to be appreciated.

In the early days of the Christian Church the study of Palmistry was discouraged as it was considered a pagan practice. But as people began to understand that it had no religious connotations opposition to it decreased and Handreading enjoyed a rennaissance during the middle ages.
In our own time Palmistry became wide spread and respectable. One of the greatest practicioners of the art was the justly famous Count Louis Hamon(Cheiro) 1866-1936 who advised many of "the great and good" in his day. Among the many Palmistry predictions he made accurately were ,the fate of the last Czar of Russia, the time of the death of Queen Victoria, the exact circumstances that occured, and the time of the abdication of Edward viii of England, and that he would leave the throne for love. It is the late count's Palmistry methods and manner of proceeding that are being carried into the twenty first century by me, Christopher Anton.
