Subject: Troubled Euphorbia

I have what seems to be a Euphorbia pseudocactus. The stems have a triangular section, with a double row of thorns on each edge. (The supplier label didn't help, it just read "Euphorbia"). Initially in a pot placed in a sunny veranda, it grew quickly until reaching its 180cm tall. At that point I put it on the ground just below. From that point it never grew again, and it has been at least three years. On the first spring it developed a series of red spots, but I saw around other Euphorbias with similar sports and assumed it was a seasonal phase. But then, gradually, the branches started to yellow. Ths happened slowly, so that I grew used to it. But I have realized that this is not healthy. The main trunk remains deep green but it pales about half height, and when you get to the branch ends, they are now almost lemon yellow.

The position is sunny during the mornings. Nearby there is an Aloe pherox, a small cactus, a Moon Stone and a couple of Agaves, all of which seem happy. Only recently I have started watering it regularly as I realized that it is not really a cactus - e.g. you cannot propagate it the way you do with cactus, cropping a piece and letting it develop a callous because in two days the piece shrinks and withers like a raisin - but it has not reacted one way or the other, and I don't know what to do.

Héctor
