Subject: pencil cactus (euphorbia tirucalli)

Hello,
Hello from Boston, Massachusetts. I am a big fan of succulents and cacti because of their beauty and easy care. Here's my question: I have had a indoor pencil cactus (euphorbia tirucalli) for several years and it has grown well doubling or tripling its size over this time period. However, the branches have become a very pale green or near-yellow recently. What do you think is happening? It has been on a south-facing window sill with strong sunlight and I allow it to dry out before re-watering. And I fertilize it twice a month with a cactus-specific nutrient. Am I doing something wrong? thanks.

I am thinking that I may have fertilized too often during the winter and perhaps let dry out too much; but the sempervivens that I treat in the same manner are quite healthy.
