Subject: need help with cactus questions =]

hi all, just wondering some things...

1. when making a cactus container garden, why do a lot of websites recommend putting charcoal down as the bottom layer? what does it do?

2. what type of soil is best (brand name i guess) for a cactus container garden?

3. has anyone successfully made a cactus container garden in an aquarium with a screened top?

4. can anyone post pics of their cactus container garden(s)?

5. i know that you're all going to hate me for asking this... but what do you fertalize with? x.x i've never fertalized any of my mom's random plants and i have no idea what to buy, how to do it, etc.
