Subject: electric switch for hatch not working

 the electric switch for my 99 GTI stopped working all of a sudden. the switch for the gas tank works however - for now. when i pull the switch or use the remote key nothing seems to happen beyond the parking lights flashing. ?? i can still use the key to open the hatch. anyone ever have this issue and how was it resolved? thanks!
