Subject: My One Life To Live At A Soap Opera Lucheon

Just who are these people who fly in, bus in, train in, and drive in from all parts of the United States for soap opera gatherings?

They are the Bold and Beautiful, the Young and the Restless; they are people in search of their Guiding Light, those who are seeking Passions, As The World Turns. They want a piece of the action, a moment in time when they can have their say, a time when they don’t have to be PC, but if they want to, they can live out the Days Of Their Lives in Port Charles, Genoa City, Llanview, Pine Valley, Salem or Springfield. They are certainly people with more than One Life To Live. They are accountants, lawyers, cashiers, secretaries, teachers, social workers; they are agents from the CIA, the FBI, the DUI, The KMA and the Bureau of ATF. They could actually be cast in a storyline on All My Children, but most of them actually need to be checked in at General Hospital for some serious therapy.

Once I arrived at the luncheon, I found my table, and I made my initial visit to the ladies room to make sure my lipstick was still on my lips and not on my teeth. I wasn’t there more than 30 seconds when I heard a small voice say, “You’re lucky you still have teeth!” I looked down to see this woman of about 70 some odd years, with bleached blonde hair, showing me the place in her mouth where teeth use to be. I looked at her compassionately, and she said, “Thank you for listening!” Well, the last thing I wanted to do was be stuck in the ladies room with a complete stranger, telling me about her failed dental work, but I did. The lady went on to show me her low cut halter top; she said she wore it to divert attention from her mouth. Well, that’s when I grabbed my purse and went running for my table, where I sat by one very UPTIGHT fan club president of a very UPTIGHT, stand-offish actor. She too was extremely stand-offish, wanting nothing to do with anybody at the luncheon. Maybe it was because one of the actor’s biggest fans complained ad-infinitum about the traumatic experience she suffered when the actor shrugged her off after she and a friend stood outside in the cold for hours, waiting to give him presents that they had purchased for him.

Later, I met a lady who had One Life To Live painted on her fingernails. (“One” on the forefinger, “To” on the next finger and so on.)

I had a great time, despite the fact that I didn’t believe that I was doing what I swore I would never do, but there I was, standing in line, waiting to meet the actors who portray my favorite and not so favorite characters. Among the actors who showed up were, Kassie DePaiva, who has a great sense of humor, Kristen Aldersen, and her brother Eddie, Ty Treadwell,(who made me smile a lot!) Larry Lau, who was sick, Hillary B. Smith was there, as well as Catherine Hickland. My favorite was Illene Kristen. I love Roxy! My one disappointment is that I didn’t get to meet Timothy D. Stickney! DAMN! My biggest joy was meeting some online friends, eventhough some of them are whacked!

I met some wacko fans when I went too, and that was in '99 before I knew what I know now. (Who to avoid!) I'm dying to hear how the format changed. When I went the stars were introduced and they came out one by one. Florencia did a little dance and my daughter said "what a geek". Then we ate lunch with the actors, they had a Q&A session and then the line up at tables for autographs. What news did you get? Anyone mention RS? Was Gary there?

Margie, The format has changed. I think that I would have liked the '99 format better.

They had items from the show displayed, and people could bid on some, and buy raffle tickets for others. Tonya, the woman who runs KDP's site won the Todd and Blair wedding invitation. They had things like Todd's t-shirt, a menu from Rodi's, Jessica's adoption papers, and they auctioned off a studio tour.

After that, they announced the actors, one by one, and they came out, took the mic and said a few words to the audience.
Then they announced the award winners.

After that, the actors took up their stations, and proceded to meet their fans.

They did a Q&A where basically each table got to ask a question of one of the actors (our "spokesperson" asked KA a question about working with KDP and RH). The problem was that this year Laurie (the MC) was alone...last year Al Needleman (Needles the stage manager) was roaming the audience while Laurie was on stage with the actors.
We got no scoops, no mention of RS, and nope, Gary was NOT there, LOL! It may interest you to know though that dd, b and I went on a studio tour on Friday and saw that on their scripts they still call it "Dorian's House". Also, Wardrobe still has boxes of accessories labeled "Dorian's"....we asked if that meant something, but they said no that they were old accessories, but that you never know when she could return, LOL! (We also saw a box labeled "Todd/Max/Breasts".....from the 4th of July show)

When I went in '99 my table was right in front of Robin, about 10 feet away from her. She truly loves her fans, she had little gifts for everyone, a card with lots of pictures of her from over the years and something else....damn, I'll have to ask my daughter. A few people brought her gifts and she just ate up the attention. I didn't get how she could ever make an enemy, she was SWEET, to the point of making me feel sad for her. JFP was there and I was so tempted to start a food fight. Maybe that's why they quit having the cast eat with the fans. ;-)
