Subject: cycling as a metaphor for all things human and not so human

this thread had been started as a offshoot ("the break") from a posting in a thread on the new forums ("the peloton"). for the original thread which is now at least 6 pages, see www.dailypelotonforums.com/main/index.php?showtopic=367

Armstrong is a waning celebrity here. LA would be an idiot to run for governor of Texas right now -- Texas politics is such a bizarre phenomenon that only four people really understand it -- Karl Rove, Molly Ivins, Paul Begala and the editor of Texas Monthly. It is in transition because it is majority minority, but the votes don't break out that way. Republicans dominated and will likely continue to dominate for the next few cycles. Their day is coming in Texas, though. That explains about 100% of Bush/Rove's reluctance to embrace anti-immigration positions of the right.
actually, Texas was a Democrat stronghold til Rove came on the scene in the early 80's and revolutionised the listing tactics and built the base. Los Angleles was similarly a Democratic stronghold that was ensconced by celebrity last election. Why would we assume it will be any different in Texas. Ofcourse he will run in the future. Whether or not he is voted in is another matter.

speaking of american gubernatorial elections, "Question: Did Karl Rove personally step in and ask Scranton to withdraw from the Pennsylvania governor's race?" find the answer here:
[greetingsfrompennsylvania.blogspot.com/2006/04/lynn-swann-karl-roves-personal-choice.html] (honestly, i did not put "rove" in my google search to find that quote -- it was the first article up on this search "carl swann PA governor"

funny, but most american races boil down to a two-person sprint fairly quickly. the last california governor's race was more of a sprint by an entire peloton virtually to the end.

Are you sure that is Shakespeare's view of honor, or the words and viewpoint he ascribes to a buffoon, Falstaff, in a drama? I understand it's easy for some to mix up the writer and the character. This mistake is probably most commonly made when people quote the character Paulonius in Hamlet; "to thine own self be true." as though it was some sage wisdom from Shakespeare, when in fact it was the destructive advice of a meddling, manipulative father who's guidance led to both his children's deaths.

magine what shakespeare could have done had he had the opportunity to write about the tragedy and drama of cycling . . .

maybe that could be the theme of a new compendium/writing contest -- write about cycling a la shakespeare . . .

btw, vaughn has said several times that i could mention the old message board in the new forums [fora?] and vise versa -- so on the chance that the moderators of the new fora thread think that a certain thread, dailypelotonforums.com/main/index.php?showtopic=367 , has gone too far astray, we can always pick the discussion up here on the old message board (no registration required to post) -- and just to be safe, i have posted a copy of my posting here for anyone who dares stray farther and further than the old fora's original subject entitled "Lance allegedly admitted to taking EPO [NOT]"
