It would make a bit more sense if Menchov has already signed a contract. If he wins, he cannot ask for a higher salary, but the UCI points/pro tour points (whatever) are still for Rabobank because Menchov brings them along.

Frank Hoste and Marcel Wuyts considered the alliance to be a fait accompli, but as I said, I'm less sure, so I don't really understand what the irritation is about.
