yes its exactly as you said, sorry if i'm confusing. in this case pro racers are the practicers and controllers/doctors are the theorists. training is another example. the "latest" information available to most of us now is old because someone is out there on the edge practicing new stuff. later it will be proven/disproven sifted and codified into theory and rules and controls will come in response.
the short of it as it applies here is athletes will always be ahead of doctors because they have the initiative.
