There are all sorts of symbols that people can wear to bring to mind one cause or another. You're putting words in my mouth regarding water bottles. That's an entirely different deal. In a competitive arena the bracelet is more akin to a Lakers basketball player writing "Pistons Rule" on his shoes. It calls the nature of the competition into question.
