Steels officially to Omega Pharma-Lotto

Tom Steels (33) will sign a 3-year contract with the new formation, his previous team Landbouwkrediet-Colnago announced on tuesday.

"It was a tough decision", says the national champ. "I've had 2 beautiful years with Landbouwkrediet. The team gave me the opportunity to work on my comeback, without putting too much pressure on me. They left me alone when necessary, and that's what I needed."

Steels will thus be riding in the ProTour next season, chasing his 10th tour stage win for example.

Fassa officially done with VdB


In Het Laatste Nieuws Giancarlo Feretti said that Vdb and Fassa will part ways. "As far as I'm concerned the chapter 'VdB' is over. And I don't think Frank will be surprised by this. We gave him every opportunity to become a top rider again, it was up to him to show what he could."

VdB's manager Paul De Geyter said that he won't immedeately be searching for a new team. "I'd rather see Frank in good shape, so he could still ride some more (real) races for Fassa this season."
