I am writing to express interest in being employed as an English teacher beginning September 2002. I am especially interested in opportunities to live and work in Bahia, Brazil or the Dominican republic.
As you will see from my resume, I am an American citizen and a native speaker of English. I hold a bachelor of arts degree in English, with a grade point average of 3.9 in my major.
In 1996 I was selected to teach English Composition in an award winning Freshman Year Initiative program to a multinational, multilingual student body. In conjunction with my classroom responsibilities, I attended a weekly seminar on teaching English by the director of the program. Simultaneously, I served as poetry editor and contributing writer on a bicultural campus quarterly. Furthermore, I was approached by senior faculty to lead workshops introducing students to the English department’s offerings and curriculum, and ensure their successful transition to higher learning. I've also worked privately as a tutor to help foreign language users build and improve their English skills.
In addition to English, I spent several undergraduate semesters studying Italian and Hebrew. Upon commencement, I continued to hone my interest in languages. I spent two semesters studying ancient Greek, an endeavor that allowed me to pay careful attention to classical etymologies and English derivatives. I later achieved fluency in American Sign Language. In addition to sharpening my translation skills, and my ability to span multiple cultures, it has enabled me to use my body in addition to other mediums, and is therefore an asset in the Total Body Response phase of teaching English as a foreign language.
I feel confident that my wide language study demonstrates linguistic aptitude and an ability to master language and grammar concepts. Also, my independent travels overseas, and professional and scholastic endeavors, reflect culturally diverse interests, and the kind of curious and open-minded outlook essential for success abroad.
In addition, I possess an excellent ability to learn, assimilate and transmit new information, a talent for inspiring excitement and enthusiasm, and encouraging student participation, and an ability to gage and meet students’ needs and expectations.
Please consult my resume below.
In the hopes of establishing a mutually rewarding professional relationship,
Yours sincerely,
Naomi Ehrich
