Certainly he made a big contribution to the entertainment industry, but I heard he was not a particularly nice man.

A strange career. What did he really do? Did he pick the acts himself for Bandstand? Who really wanted to see the forever young Clark old and pathetic the last few years on New Year's eve? Could he not just let go. May he rest in peace. adamseve

The Pressure on him must have been quite intense at times.
I think every one wanted a slice of him to further their career's.

I remember the Jackson 5 on there.
Sole Train was great. A Black Version of A.B.

I had heard rumor's he drank heavily. I guess pressure would cause that.

All he was in truth , just a tv announcer , nothing more.
It was the musician's that made the show a hit.

He will be missed , as will all our other tv favorites.
Off Camera they were just human being's. With real lives to lead.

...and went to my school so the ariwaves here are fully of tributes from people who actually knew him and met him and across the board they say the nice guy you saw on the screen was the guy they knew offscreen as well.

In a long career putting on television shows, you are going to have conflicts with people and there will always be sombody telling people you are not a nice guy. Maybe sometimes you aren't. Who is?
