Subject: Episode Loosely Based on Bloody Benders?

My husband is a huge westerns fan.

He said there was an episode of Bonanza that was loosely based upon "The Bloody Benders".

The Bloody Benders were family of serial killers who owned an inn and small general store in Kansas from 1871 to 1873.

For more info about them see this link:

Adam was the main Cartright in this episode and was wacked in the head by someone just like the Bloody Benders would do to their victims.

He says he remembers this happens in a tent. I "thought" maybe it was the episode "The Saga of Annie O'Toole" because a tent was mentioned in episode description but we watched it tonight and it's not the right episode.

I went through Bonanza episode guide and can't seem to find anything else that sounds like this.

Does anyone happen to recognize this scenario and know which episode this is?

I can't place the episode in particular, perhaps one of the others can.

I read somewhere online that an episode of both Bonanza and The Big Valley were loosely based The Bloody Benders, but it didn't mention the Bonanza episode by title. The Big Valley episode was "Ladykiller" from season three in 1967, with guest stars Marlyn Mason and Royal Dano.

Thank you so much for the response. I had read somewhere that there was also an episode of "The Big Valley" that was loosely based upon "The Bloody Benders.

Interestingly enough, when I mentioned to my husband that I found out the name of the episode of "The Big Valley", he said "You know I got to thinking last night ..."

I then told him I had wondered if he was thinking "Bonanza" but meant "The Big Valley" instead.

He then said "Yes, it happened to Nick, I'm not sure why I thought it was Adam on Bonanza."

But considering there are also references to an episode of "Bonanza", I'm still on the hunt for which episode that might be.

We've read stories about "The Bloody Benders" and have been intrigued by it.

I also found out there is a movie in the works "The Bloody Benders" but they have yet to get it to the point of being in theaters.

They do have a web site for the movie, as well as, a Facebook page.

Thanks again so much for the info about "The Big Valley" episode.

I located the episode on YouTube and we're going to watch it this evening via our Roku.

Respectfully, my dear, have you considered the possibility that your hubby was on something of a "bender" himself ("a Bloody Mary bender?) when he imagined he saw the activities you've described on a BONANZA episode? I think I can go out on a bit of a limb here and say the chances of David Dortort (or Michael Landon, for that matter) approving a story based upon the gruesome facts you've mentioned are slim to none!
