Subject: Best comic relief on TV westerns: Hoss or Trampas?

I have been watching my 'Men from Shiloh' episodes and Doug McClure's comedic talents are just so perfect. I love Dan Blocker, and it's probably unfair to compare them. They certainly are the two best actors when it comes to comic relief in television westerns. Thoughts or opinions?

Yes, Festus is my favorite TV comic Western sidekick of all time.


(Best film Western sidekick was Walter Brennan in "Rio Bravo.")

Festus, yes, that was another good one. Ken Curtis was brilliant in that role.

Some of Doug McClure's humor on The Virginian was off the cuff comments he would make to a character on the show that could not have been part of the script. Just some off-hand comment that you catch that he says very quickly between lines.

But Trampas was not really a comic character like Hoss or Festus could play.
