How about that L-O-N-G Lost episode?

I forget what it is called.

But it’s about a guy named Rick that plays a re-occurring staring role in the show, and places a password on the Ranch gates!

Not even Ben knows what the password is, and he is stuck outside the gate after a day of rounding up some of his stray cattle.

Little Joe is beside himself because he can’t shoot the lock off of the password. And of course he has to get ready for his date!

Hoss and Chub, are just getting back from a day of helping a neighboring rancher brand his cattle. And Hoss is hungry!

Hop-Sing is stuck inside the gates, in the kitchen, with all this food, and no one except Jamie to feed.

(Can you imagine?)

The big party is planned in the front yard tonight. New-Years Eve.

As the story continues we find out that Rick and Deputy Clem have put this whole thing together as a New Years practical joke!

Finally Ben and the boys are let back onto the Ranch. They, and all of the invited Virginia City folk, have a great big laugh over the punch bowl.

It is a party they will never forget.

Mark Twain even wrote about it in the Territorial Enterprise!

In the end, all of the Cartrights’ live happily ever after!

And today their fans once again have open access to wonder, and to dream on the Ranch we all know as The Ponderosa!
