Sometimes they cheat by having all the principle characters at the beginning or at the very end, but really one actor carries the entire episode. For instance, we briefly see Ben and Hoss at the beginning of 'An Earthquake Called Callahan,' but it's essentially a Joe episode, and even the guest stars are featured significantly more than Ben and Hoss.

You're right about that, and there's a lot of those. Ever since it was brought up, I casually watch to see if only one character appears from beginning to end, and they're not many. I do notice later on that Adam has more of a minor role more than the others. Wonder if it was his choice, or the producers. If you watch in years three and four and up, when Adam is in the background, I love to watch his expressions when in the background. Yes, I'm aware of the history.
