My mother's friend in Maine was born that year too. She's still going strong in her own house, chopping her cord wood (brought "Down Maine" for her by her brother who came to New Hampshire here in his first gathering of wood from the Hurricane of 1938 before building his to Hardware Store today) for the cook stove for when I visit for some Toll house cookies! (;-) and usually see her out cutting the lawn. . . on her sit-down mower of course.

I had written to Frank Cady a few years ago for a signed photo, but that after decades of sending out same, I had reached him like a week or two after his policy of he was fully retired.

His assistant did send me a form letter saying thanks, but that his interaction with his fans had ended, as in he wanted to live out the rest of his life in "quiet".

Sort of like 'Cinncinatus" on Daniel Boone of I sent him a fan letter too, and his daughter wrote back that she and he appreciate them all, and that she reads them all to her Dad, but that it's not that he won't, but that he can't reply as just too old.

It's sad to see our friends leave us before they reach a hundred years old, but that not all of us can make it to there in one piece, or in one piece, but a bit beyond repair or replacement.
