Subject: Bonanza -details & trivia

Hi folks,
This is my first time here. I have not found an active Bonanza forum until now ad I am thankful.
All these years of watching Bonanza and I missed trivial detail until recently. My question is:
"Why all the cowboys wearing gun belts do not have any bullets on them?"
This would be so unnatural for that period. Any one have any clue?
Would be happy to hear from you all.

Welcome Gary; of that's a good question.

Can you slow down the tape to count the # of places to slip in a bullet on the belt?

Over at: http://www.chacha.com/question/how-many-bullets-does-a-typical-western-ammo-belt-hold

= " Depending on the exact western ammo belt, they typically hold 6 to 30 rounds. "

I've been watching The "Antiques Roadshow" on PBS-TV for years and see guns brought in for estimates of value at auction, and have seen the Civil War canteens, but never a gun belt.

Plus see: http://www.chacha.com/question/when-were-bullets-first-invented

= " Captain John Norton of the British Army designed the first bullet-looking bullet in 1823. The earlier bullets until then were spheres of metal or wood. "

Hi Gary... I believe the firearms the guys carry are black powder and not cartridge pistols. They are loaded with powder and ball ammo, so there would not be any shells to put in the loops...

P.S. At least, they are SUPPOSED to be black powder... Not sure that the pistols they are carrying actually are... Hollywood magic don't ya know... Cheers!

Just curious: with all of the acting skills involving gunshots, explosions, falls, were any actors (including guest stars) ever seriously injured yet played it off until the cameras stopped filming?
