Subject: Love 'em and leave 'em

I'm completing my marathon of watching the Warner Brother's Westerns, (Cheyenne, Maverick, Sugarfoot and Bronco). No I'm not 'bingeing': I'm watching 2-3 episodes a week since about last fall.

One of the last season Broncos is called "The Harrigan". It features Sean McClory as an Irishman who, with Bronco, infiltrate a criminal gang which seems to include the gangleader's sister, played by Kathie Browne. He falls in love with Kathie but is so discouraged that she's part of a criminal gang he becomes cynical actually thinks of becoming a permanent member of the gang instead of bringing them to justice. Then he finds out that she's unaware of her brother's activities and together the three of them bring down the gang. Harrigan gets the girl and Bronco rides on to the next episode.

I kept wondering: Haven't I seen these two together before? Indeed I had, in in the season 3 Bonanza episode "The Tall Stranger, where Kathie is torn between marrying Hoss or a charming Irishman named Mark Connors, played by McClory. Conners wins out and takes her to San Francisco. He impregnates but then abandons her. She dies in child birth, leaving Hoss to go after Connors.

I looked up the two episodes on the IMDB and found that "The Harrigan" was broadcast on Christmas Day, 1961 and "The tall Stranger" was broadcast January 7, 1962, just 13 days later. I assume the filming dates were not very far part, either.

Kathie must have looked into Sean's eyes and asked "Didn't you love me- just a couple of weeks ago?
