The cue was titled "Ponderosa" by David Rose and heard in most episodes and his favorite piece. By 1967, he was expanding his music arrangements with the cue in many episodes. Season 12 started off with it as the title music ("The Big Bonanza") and it was used in most every story in different guises until the end of the series in 1972. It was discarded as the title music after Dan died and Mike didn't think it fit as well as the original theme, but Rose used it in the storyline music. Mike and David Dortort had Rose go back to the 1959 original for season 14, but it was played much faster. The "Ponderosa" cue was a beautiful piece and Landon was more than happy to let Rose to use it for "Little House" and it was rearranged for the main and end title music in "Highway to Heaven." I've been researching film music for a long time.

R :)
