I always thought Leonard and Elmer Bernstein, both great composers, were brothers. Nope.

I also thought baseball players Darrell and Dwight Evans were bothers. They were contemporaries and similar players in many ways and both born in California. Nope.

I thought Ben Johnson, football player Otto Graham, basketball coach Tex Winter and director Mike Nichols were dead long before they actually were, (in the case of Johnson and Graham who are now really dead, not in the case of Nichols and Winter who are still alive). In each case there was a serious illness I assumed had done them in. They were our of the public eye for a time and then re-appeared, much to my surprise.

I had a book that listed a date of death for actor Dan Seymour, who appeared in Casablanca, as July 27, 1982. Then I saw him interviewed on the 50th anniversary of Casablanca in 1992. Then he did die on May 25th of 1993.

Then there's the Eddie Murphy rumor, (see above).

I guess all death rumors are eventually true, even if we get the dates wrong sometimes.
