None of the above. Well, maybe times change is valid but not a complete explanation. Gore's support for Dean is more consistent with his record than was the choice of Lieberman as running mate. In the 2000 election, Gore chose Lieberman as his running mate for a number of political reasons not the least of which was to gain support from groups who might have thought his positions were too close to Populist/Progressive politics. No one will ever accuse Lieberman of being either Populist or Progressive (he's more like a really crappy beer called Busch Lite) and having him on the ticket pretty much guaranteed the financial support of some very influential people.
