the term "date" was almost universal in OZ, a decade or three ago.

It is amazing how a language changes with time. But at keast it proves that the language is alive, not dead. Even Latin can move with the times to a degree, although not much. Note the anonymous schoolboy's lament.

Latin is a dead language,
As dead as dead can be.
At first it killed the Romans,
And now it's killing me.
