I adored M*A*S*H

I first watched Hawkeye and Trapper John in Wabag. Got videos from Betty Chang of Hagen and rented them out to those expats who had the good fortune to have a VCR with them back then in the 70s.

We watched every episode millions of times, over and over again, consuming that culture and relishing every little Frank Burns antic with glee.

Now they all [alas, except for dear Frank RIP] are returning.

The 10 surviving cast members from the popular comedy will gather for a 30th anniversary special on May 17, the Fox network announced yesterday.

The two-hour program will include series star Alan Alda (Hawkeye Pierce) and both his successive co-stars, Wayne Rogers (Trapper John) and Mike Farrell (B.J. Hunnicut).

Also on hand will be Loretta Swit (Hotlips Houlihan) and Gary Burghoff (Radar).

And the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital would not be complete without its other stars: Harry Morgan, David Odgen Stiers, William Christopher, Jamie Farr and Alan Arbus.

Based on the hit 1970 film about the frontline medical unit during the Korean War, M*A*S*H aired on TV between 1972 and 1983.

It finished among the top 10 shows for nine of its 11 seasons. The two-hour finale was one of the most-watched programs in US television history. with more than 100 million viewers tuning in as Hawkeye and Hunnicut said their farewells.
