Subject: Howard and his hypocritical cant is typical and contemptible

An Australian SAS soldier who was badly injured in East Timor says the army has neglected him since returning home.

Trooper Ron Juric was a machine-gunner on the lead vehicle when his squadron was ambushed by militiamen near the East Timor border two-and-a-half years ago.

Trooper Juric was shot twice and another man was shot in the neck.

At the time, army officials described his injuries as minor but Trooper Juric is yet to fully recover.

He says the SAS is no longer wanting his services and has written to him wanting his resignation, saying the SAS is not a "holding tank for busted soldiers".

He says he has been offered a paltry $15,000 compensation for his injuries.

"I expected to receive at least the minimum standards for the average Joe Bloggs on the street," he said.

"Obviously I've spoken to lawyers about the compensation and it's a bit strange but I would have been better off being injured in a car accident than actually fighting for my country."
