So some people want to split up FACTS ? SW separate, Anime separate ?
OK, what do we do with a dealer who has some Anime and some Star Trek ? Do we split him/her up too ? More importantly, will they survive ? Now, there are also different groups of SW fans who are divided amongst themselves. Should we separate them too ? Does the S in FACTS stand for schizofrenic ? Should we charge people who are SW and Anime fans twice ? Hm, I smell a profit.
Now, my co-founder Emmanuel and myself are both anime fans. We would love to have more manga dealers and Anime special guests. We ourselves cannot create new dealers. They do not grow on trees. And anime guests come from Japan, which means $$$$$$ to get them over here. We just don't have the cash, people. We're non-profit, and believe us, at the end of the day, we do not have the means to pay for more. Same goes for American guest stars: did you know what big actors charge ? Let's just say you can buy a small house for what they charge for a day. Really. ST actors charge bigtime, unless you want to settle for the guy who played Morn in DS9 (no offense, Morn). We'd love to meet Patrick Stewart and Mark Hammill, but unless every FACTS visitor donates a kidney and/or sell his house, we have to face the facts (no pun intended).
So if you know about a dealer you want on FACTS, send us an address and we'll send him all the documents he needs. But if he decides not to come, we can't do anything about it. We cannot hold a gun to his head. And if you can fix us free airline tickets and free hotels, and you can get an actor to knock his price down bigtime, please, we're all ears. We're Ferengi.
Do not forget, we're fans ourselves, we do this because we love it. We haven't been paid anything for our ten years of hard work. Not that we are complaining, but this gives you an idea of the budget. Wait a minute. We haven't been paid for ten years ??!! This job sucks. I quit. Naah, don't worry, we're also like Cenobites: bring on the pain.
Sorry for the ranting, but sometimes it's hard to please everybody.
