I've just been reading the latest bunch of messages on the forum and I would just say : let's just cool down !!
It makes no sense to start insulting eachother and/or breaking down each other's interests and passions.
Remember what F.A.C.T.S. stands for : Fantasy Anime Comics Toys Space. This means that our convention includes Star Wars, Star Trek, Anime, Lord of the Rings, etc.
If you're only into one of these, fine. But do respect other people's preferences. Don't forget that most "common" people look down on all of us anyway, despising Star Wars, Star Trek, anime and the likes, thinking we're all a bunch of kids who never grew up.
I therefore don't think it makes any sense to start a "my preference is better than yours"-discussion, for F.A.C.T.S. is big enough for everyone to enjoy his own passion.
As to organising your own convention : good luck ! As a co-founder of F.A.C.T.S., I've been working my butt off for almost ten years now and, trust me, it's a hell of a lot of work, with much work and little play, with worries (will our budget stand, will people show up, will the guest star be present, etc.) and little comfort. And for any of you who might think that organising a convention is a source of fortune, just forget it : we barely make any profit and immediately re-invest it in the convention. And to make sure you know it all : none of us is paid anything for all the time and efforts we invest in our convention ...
So, if we could close this discussion, I think it would be the better for all of us. Thank you.
