I had the misfortune of being on an airplane when I'd finished reading the book I had with me, had hours until we landed and couldn't make myself go to sleep. I didn't have a parachute or sleeping pills so watched this movie. It's an experience I wouldn't want to repeat.

Sylvester Stallone saves the survivors inside the Holland Tunnel which has collapsed at both ends. This is a standard disaster flick which stretches the bounds of credibility with too many coincidences and special effects.

Viggo Mortensen's performance is the only attempt to give a character some actual character. It's also a testament to his ability to wring out a good performance from lacklustre material. Amy Brenneman, who can be a good actor, can't manage to do anything with her cardboard character. Viggo's portrayal of the arrogantly confident mountain climbing executive is the one spot of pleasure in this whole film. But even he can't save this from being a bad film, especially since he dies so early on - after saying that he never fails. After his demise, its was a struggle to endure the rest of this film.

If you really want to see Viggo's performance, stop watching once his character dies. You'll save yourself the agony.
