You might find Reflecting Skin in the horror section of your video rental store or in the art house section. Another film by Philip Ridley, who also directed Viggo Mortensen in The Passion of Darkly Noon, which people either love or hate. Some people describe Ridley as a British David Lynch. The story is about a young boy in 1950s Idaho. He might be crazy or everyone else around him is crazy or maybe his story is an allegory for the loss of innocence. He thinks the woman next door is a vampire. His father douses himself with gasoline and sets himself on fire. His brother, played by Viggo, has radiation sickness after testing atomic bombs for the military. Viggo's character becomes the lover of the woman next door. The young boy thinks she may be drinking his brother's blood. The boy and his friends spy on the woman. They watch her masturbate. A baby is murdered. The murderers might be after the boy. Things get pretty ghastly but the photography of the prairies is incredibly beautiful. Every character in this film is strange. I haven't even described the mother. Viggo plays a very flawed character. I think he does a great job but whether you agree may depends on whether you think this is just a freak show.
