I will have to take a look at some of my notes on this and repost a little later however I do remember that A Company (1/505th) was involved in this as was General Gavin who was misdropped north of La Fiere witha stick of the 508th. Elements of the 507th PIR misdropped east of the Mederet were traveling along the bank of the river looking for a good place to ford and link up with their main force when they became involved as well.

Gavin took command of the troops in this action and split his forces between the siezure of two bridges on the river. The La Fiere bridge was one of these.

A very good reference on this is Robert Murphey's "No Better Place To Die". A new edition should be available at any time if not already.

I will post more later.
