Subject: What do you think of the Villanova scheduling fiasco?

On the outside chance you have missed this story while enjoying your summer - read this first:

http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/colleges/temple_university/6558141.htm

Is anyone else interested in an email/letter/phone campaign to Villanova, the Big 5, and the NCAA to protest the way that Villanova is manipulating their schedule to lessen the impact of their suspensions and wreaking havoc with their opponents’ schedules?

The point of the suspensions for the phone card scandal was not to let Villanova break their scheduling commitments to Temple and others so they could pad their schedule with games that wouldn't matter come NCAA Selection Sunday and get their roster back for their Hawaii trip. The players are only being taught that there are no real consequences - that the Athletic Department is scheduling phantom games so the players don't miss real competition or the chance to play in Hawaii. It is a sham, and a shame.

The Big 5 is a fantastic tradition and deserves better from Villanova. Just as St. Bonaventure needed to step up last year when the players decided to quit on the season, here we have another example where Villanova's administration should let the players experience the consequences of their actions - even if that means missing a game or two in Hawaii or having to sit and watch their team lose a game or two or even having post season implications.

Where does it say you can intentionally violate NCAA rules and have your school weasel to protect your chances to play in the NCAA tournament?
