Did anybody get out for the bass opener on Saturday? I had to work that day, but I did get to fish off my dock for about 1 1/2 hours before going in. The fish seemed pretty active early on Honeoye.
I started about 5:15 am throwing a golden shiner jerkbait. On the 2nd cast I hooked a largemouth that was about 3 lbs. She gave me 1 nice jump then hit the weeds and fouled the other 2 hooks in the weeds and shook it. The next cast, I hooked another one with the same result. Frustrated by this, I put on a buzz bait with only 1 hook on it. I caught 3 largemouth on this, the largest was about 15 inches (all were released).
I saw quite a few people in boats catching some good fish on topwater lures and spinnerbaits out near the weededge in our cove. One guy got one that looked about 4 lbs.
I heard from a friend of mine who fished Port Bay in a tournament on Saturday. He said it was excellent (he would - he won the tournament and got lunker - 4lb 7oz!). But he said quite a few people did well.
Hope to hear some other reports.
Good luck to all.
Norm
