la dee da..Skit:
The MTA New York City Transit has been affected in the area below Chambers Street along the West Side of lower Manhattan. A couple of subway lines have been affected and stations themselves have been severely damaged. What happens is that we can act as commuters of the area that have switched to other lines to continue going to work, etc. They can be talking on the subway, lamenting about what a hassle their daily rounds to and from work are, and mention some of the other transportation problems that have surfaced (to add extra factual details). Then, we switch to Mayor Bloomberg and the President of the MTA. They have gotten together to formulate a resolution to the problem. It is this: the collapsed tunnels will be rebuilt, nothing will be rerouted so no riders will be concerned with having to find alternate routes, and the subway system will go back to normal. All plans of renovating the stations will be made in accordance to how the 16 acres will be dealt with –where the memorial is, if the towers will be rebuilt, etc. ¤

PowerPoint: All the compiled information stuffed in 10-12 slides. ¤

Paper: It will show the controversial sides of how to return the subway system back to normal. This information is all in: “Rising from the Ruins,” from the Railway Age, January 2002, v303 i1, page 41 (5). (I have the article) What it says about the different sides to the transportation problem (in general because I’m not about to regurgitate the whole entire thing):
A. PATH:
i. service between NJ and the WTC shut down
ii. one third of PATH riders have to alter their commute; severe congestion has been created on PATH’s remaining line to 33rd St in midtown Manhattan; other details can be found in article
iii. can either restore or collaborate with NYCT to create a new infrastructure for connections
iv. has taken some steps in restoring everything back to normal
v. have tried to accommodate the passengers they have
B. NYCT:
i. two subway stations and one tunnel destroyed, services and routes altered, riders alter their route, more details in article
ii. can either restore or collaborate with PATH to create a new infrastructure for connections
iii. can rebuild the collapsed tunnels or reroute trains and build in an alternative location
iv. WTC site’s rebuilding can affect their decision because they have to cater to what will be built where the Twin Towers once stood
v. some proposals have been made
