Hey there everyone,
Well, I really really like it here. I'm getting in a lot of interpreting practice and socializing. It's been great to go to different performances...I went to one that was directed by Patrick Graybill...I felt so in the prescence of a celebrity when I saw him there! It was a funny play that had both hearing and Deaf actors. They did the same play, but on two separate sides of the stage...so there were no "interpreters" but rather hearing actors saying their lines in conjunction to the Deaf actor's signing their lines...very interesting set up. There have been conferences and a weekend celebration. This past weekend, Gallaudet Students came up to NTID for Brickfest. It's a weekend of fun, food and games. I went to this "party" thing that was sponsored by the school...it lasted until 2 AM!! (Way past my 9 PM bed time)! But I stayed up and chatted the whole time. It was a lot of fun. My mentor is great. She went to WOU too and we have a lot in common. She's been really supportive. Yesterday we worked on voicing from a video tape...I realized my voice sounds over-eager and desperate to just get all the signs...ack...she made me stop the videotape and "chunk" it by paraphrasing it. We also had to work on affect. I always thought affect was easy until I stood in front of a class of all Deaf students and tried to interpret about post-WWI Europe. ACK. Oh well...it's improved...But MILES to go before I rest... :)
Oh, don't worry everyone...ARBOR is doing GREAT! I know you've all been very concerned! He LOVES his new house and he has a new best friend named Luke...Luke's a Beagle. They play all day together. They're adorable.
Okay, well, I'm glad some people are using this Forum thing. :) It's always so hard to remember to check it!
Miss you all,
Suz
