Motorsports radio show coming to Austin
Central Texas motorsports fans have long supported auto racing on the local, regional and national levels. Now, Austin’s all-sports radio station is stepping forward for those diehard racing fans.
KVET-AM 1300, known as “AM-1300, The Zone,” will play host to “The Motorsports Zone” radio show. The Motorsports Zone is a weekly show that will run from 9 a.m.-10a.m. on Saturday mornings, starting in February.
The exact start date of the show will be announced in the next couple of weeks.
KVET-AM 1300, Austin’s all-sports radio station, is the flagship station for University of Texas athletics and is recognized as the radio sports leader in Central Texas.
Besides coverage of UT sports, station programming includes four local talk shows (The Buck on Sports from 6 a.m.-9 a.m., The Major Applewhite Show from 2 p.m.-3 p.m., The Longhorn Hour with Craig Way from 3 p.m.-4 p.m. and The Afternoon Show with Chad Hastings, Brian Jones and Kevin Dunn from 4 p.m.-7 p.m.). All four shows run daily, Monday-thru-Friday. The station also broadcasts several other local sports events, including high school football and a golf show.
The Motorsports Zone will be hosted by Chuck Licata, who has been one of the station’s auto racing correspondents since 1999.
Licata has been involved in the Austin racing scene since 1998, when he took on the announcer duties at Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle. He has also made announcing stops at the former Longhorn Speedway in south Austin and Texas Dirt Speedway.
Licata, who started his race track announcing career in April 1995 at San Antonio Speedway, has also been involved in many behind-the-scenes projects for local auto racing at several levels.
Another longtime supporter of local racing, Chris Ganem, has already committed to be a show sponsor. Ganem owns Bowler’s Choice Pro Shop out of Dart Bowl in Austin.
Anyone interested in sponsorship or information on The Motorsports Zone radio show can contact Chuck Licata at (512) 736-8230 or KVET-AM Program Director Chuck Meyer at (512) 236-2190.
