The difference is that the area that is supposed to keep those out that cannot make the climb back up is that the delay from one room to next on the initial climb is next to nothing so that you get many attempts to make it to the next room before you fall, but in the area where people get stuck there is plenty of time to fall on your way up.

A short climb (measured by the number of rooms in the height of the climb) can be more difficult than a long climb if the time it takes to go from each individual room to the next in the short climb is sufficiently longer than in the longer climb.

I think if you lengthen the time it takes to get from one room to the next on the initial climb then it will keep all but the most skilled climbers out.
