Subject: Exchange rates!!

Today I exchanged some gracchis for gold. The sign read:

blah blah
754 gold : 100 gracchi
blah blah
*Plus a small exchange tax

So I thought, okay, that's fine. I'll do it since it's a "small exchange tax."

Imagine my dismay when I got 376 gold! Now, I calculate that to be a 49.87% exchange tax! Granted, the guy has a monopoly on money exchanging, but in real life I would ask how much he would give me back BEFORE I did it. Although in real life a money exchanger *might* try to convince you that a 50% exchange charge is a "small exchange tax", I'd like to think most people wouldn't be fooled.

Anyhow, since PCs can't very well ask the NPC exchanger what the exchange tax percentage is or how much s/he will get for their coin, I think that, in the light of game mechanics, the sign ought to tell how much you will get up front and do away with the part about a "small exchange tax." It shouldn't be too hard to setup the code to do that calculation dynamically. Let the price differences of goods from city to city determine if they are getting a good deal.

That's my two cents.
