Is there anyone else sending their first kid to college this year? My daughter is leaving next week and it's really hard to believe it can be time to send her. This is a hard thing to do. It feel really strange. It's different than when I went. My parents just sort of dropped me off and said "see you later". I'd like to know where some of them are going.

College! Wow! Mine won't be at that stage for quite awhile. My oldest is going up to Lamoille Union for seventh grade; and I was thinking that that is going to be hard. My youngest just starts 1st and school all day this year. Middle one going into fourth. You didn't mention where she was going to college, is it in state? By the way, where are you getting your groceries these days. It seems that's where I always used to see you. Did see Jim up at Smuggs taking snowboard lessons for the 1st time - don't remember if that was last winter or the one before. Can't wait for snow!!

Jim did take snowboarding lessons with our son to see if he liked it. He'd rather ski though. Joanna is going to Cornell in Ithaca NY. I aso have another daughter who will be a freshman at Essex and and my son will be a 6th grader at ADL. Yeah Patti, where have you been? It seems I only see people at the grocery store. I've been in touch with Linda McGinley. She lives in Idaho and has 2 young girls. Missy lives in Texas and I speak with her some too. I'm not too anxious for snow. Summer goes by way too fast for me.

Most of my family and friends are still dealing with high school or middle school. I've got one in each, though my wife's sister's oldest is starting at Keene State College in NH this year. It must certainly be a strange feeling indeed; watching them leave the nest!

I saw Scott Barnier at the DMV in Montpelier last week; for those who don't know, Scott, class of '77, married Barb Millette, class of '76. Their oldest graduated from UVM this year with a major in physical therapy!

I'll be glad if my kids want to go to college, any college. I guess it's never too early to start looking at schools and financing and all that stuff. The main thing, I guess, is to keep them alive till their 18, and hope they find something that inspires them somewhere along the line.

Even if they do everything wrong when they're young, I can personally attest to the resiliency of youth; at 43 I just got my B.A. in Counseling and Psychology and I'm now embarking on my third career. My advice to young people today is an archery analogy; shoot your arrows high enough while you're still young and the loft alone should carry you a long way, maybe even hit the target [like anyone under 30 is gonna listen to me!].

Hey to all...just stumbled upon this messageboard and am having great fun reading up on the events in your lives.

Kathy, I know how you feel about sending the 1st to college. Just a few months ago Chris and I sent Kelli off to Union College in Schenectady NY to study Engineering . They are on trimesters and soon we will be taking her back from her first "break". I'm not sure which is more difficult...the first drop off or the upcoming one!

Congrats to you and Jim...I've read a lot about your daughters accomplishments...you should be very proud. I also hear that your youngest has a boyfriend !:)
