Subject: Thought you all might like to know what happened yesterday with Hydrox....msg

When I got home from work, Rick was already home. He and Hydrox were outside, underneath one of the maple trees. It was drizzling a little bit, but we were fairly dry under the tree. We sat there for about 30 minutes. He would come over to Rick and lay down as Rick petted him. Then he would come over to me and lay down. I touched him and talked to him. He was content just to lay outside with us.

We took him in the house...he had a little snack and drank some milk. He used the litterbox, bless his heart, then went under the sofa for a nap.

Dr. Temple came at 2:00. We took Hydrox back to the bedroom and laid him on the bed. I had put a liner down and a big towel for him. Dr. Temple gave him the sedative first and it must have stung a little because he cried out. Whisper came up and nosed him. We left her stay for awhile, but as he fell asleep, I picked her up. Banshee was there the entire time, eyes so wide open, watching every move. She never left his side at all. Ms. Pepe jumped on the bed, but left right away. We kept touching him and telling him that he was going to be OK. Dr. Temple gave him the shot in his heart. He listened with his stethoscope and that was that. Our Old Coot died at 2:06. The doctor wrapped him in his towel and took him to be cremated.

We had to go to the office last night to pay the bill, so we ordered something for his ashes. We had buried Pita in the lilies at the front of our house. We could never bring ourselves to bury Spike. I had suggested to Rick that we bury all three of them together, but he doesn't want to bury Hydrox. So he will be beside Spike in the living room.

We just got some pictures developed and some of them are really beautiful pictures of Hydrox. I will post them this weekend if that is OK. Thank you for your prayers. You are all so wonderful!
