Just had to put my 2cents in here....
It's true that in the past gold and the dollar were inverse indicators. However, as we discovered with the last few rises in the price of gold, "the times they are changing". No longer does an increase in the price of gold necessairly indicate bad times ahead or a weak dollar. Supply and demand is now being managed better so as to keep the commodity profitable. We who have watched these things have recently seen gold and the DOW rising together. Currently we are seeing another "Santa Clause" ralley in the market as gold prices go up. I am basically an optimist at heart, and I do believe gold could hit $1,000 and the economy will be fine (if we get the oil situation under control).
