Hi Jim,

You've confirmed my gut feeling. It has been what I've told people about the DFX, but then I had to admit to myself that I never really had given it a chance at a real nugget hunt. But after trying its prospect Mode and fooling with the menu driven adjustments a bit I just decided not to waste my time. The GMT and MXT are more my style for nugget hunting.

Not to say I do not like the DFX. I have one in the back of my truck right now. I set it up for jewelry detecting, with VDI numbers below 8 and above 50 blocked out. We have no really old coins in Anchorage, Alaska (founded 1915) and so I decided to treat them as trash targets. Went out last night and got a nice little pendant with a good quality opal in it after work. I'm digging aluminum, of course, but that's ok. If I'm not finding pull tabs I get worried the spot has been detected out. So I do appreciate what the DFX can do well. I found my MXT actually a bit too sensitive for my taste for jewelry detecting as I do not really want those tiny aluminum bits the DFX ignores.

Dave actually found most of his nuggets in that photo you have last year with the MXT. See the other photos I took online at http://www.whiteselectronics.com/aprilstories04.html Thanks for not putting the sales pressure on him as knowing Dave he would have felt guilty buying from anyone else but me. He went ahead and got another MXT and I'm assuming it is the machine he used last week to find a 20.1 ounce gold nugget at Ganes Creek. But he did have a Gold Bug 2 and Infinium along also so can't swear to that yet. Check out the details and photo at http://bb.bbboy.net/alaskagoldforum-viewthread?forum=2&thread=440

I'm busy on my own mining claims this summer, but I do hope to make it over to Ganes Creek in late July or in August. I'll pretty much have to if I want a shot at beating Dave for bragging rights. Nuggets like that are not found many places in the United States.

Good luck in the Mojave this season, Jim. Hopefully you score something larger than your famous "Mojave Midgets"!
