Thanks for the replies Charles and Jim...

Actually I own a copy of the book you mentioned charles. It's not very specific and when I contacted the forest Service offices of the most promising areas they weren't very knowledgeable. Said I nee ot just "go find it and see if it's in a legal area and not under claim".

Jim, I'll try this week to locate that USGS pamphlet you mentioned AND contact Olympia too. I'm off work from Wed. - Mon. so I'll have plenty of time to do it and maybe even get out and dig in the dirt a little.
